- Shetland Pony Mares -

Ask about our “Owner Select Foal” option or OSF. An Owner Select Foal OSF is when a client selects one of our stallions and one of our mares and we do the breeding and care of the mare and foal until weaning when the foal is ready for the client to pick them up; when the foal is 4 or 5 months old. The Owner Select Foals are also eligible for the buckle incentive program.

McCall's RF Chickadee
AMHR
2010 bay tobiano foundation cert.

Full Circle – McCall's RF Chickadee (HOF) “Chick” I purchased Chickadee as a suckling foal along with her dam Red Rock Bullseye's Janet “Janet” as we call her, from the late pony breeder Eldon McCall of Bellevue Farm in Harlan, IA. [Janet passed away at 28 years old in 2023.] Both Janet and Chickadee were excellent models of the Foundation type Shetland and I was ecstatic to get both of them for my breeding program.

I ended up selling Chick to some of the nicest people that ever could grace my little farm. Derek and Maggie Watson, we have since become the greatest of friends. Derek and Maggie grew up around horses and ponies in their native Scotland, but never had their own. We met while I was demonstrating the versatility of Shetlands at the Georgia National Fair Minis and More Club Demonstration. They were mesmerized by the American Shetlands and said they had never seen such beautiful ponies in all of the UK and thought of Shetlands as the short, fat, fuzzy things. They later came to the farm to see what ponies I had available that they could purchase as pets for their grandchildren. I really didn't think they would buy a pony let alone 4 in total and breed a mare two times by the time I write this, but, they did. And, we have a great friendship because of our love for ponies.

I didn't want to sell them Chickadee because I thought she was too nice a pony to be just a pet, so, I asked them to please show her a little and see how they liked it. Besides, I had a lot of ponies and I needed to sell some; I had to make a hard decision that a lot of horse people have to make. So, I sold her and hoped they would show her and she would have better opportunities than I could afford her. And, that they did! The first year they showed Chick at Congress Derek won the Amateur Foundation Western Country Pleasure driving class, there was around 20 ponies in the class and his trainer got 2nd in the open Foundation Western Country Pleasure and she took Reserve in Foundation Mares class. Chick later went on to win Open Foundation Country Western Pleasure, Foundation Mares class and reserve in Jumping, and earned a Hall Of Fame in driving. She was loving shown by just about every youth that wanted to take a try showing from halter and showmanship to jumping and driving.

When the Watson's decided to hang up their driving whip for a while they offered her back to me, which I was again ecstatic and humbled by their generous offer because they were offered more than I could come up with, but, the Watson's knew I wanted to keep the TRUE old Foundation type and bloodlines going. So, Chick is now back “Full Circle” at Lucky M Farm to keep the line going. She will still be lightly shown but mostly she will be pursuing her new, most important career “Motherhood”.

Thank you a million Derek and Maggie Watson for letting me get this amazing mare back and showing her to greatness. The Watson's are what good breeders always hope for their animals.

Chick's first foal will come in Spring 2023.
